The Oval, home of Surrey CCC, is considered the
second most famous ground in England after Lord’s. The first ever Test match
staged in England was played at the Oval in 1880. England beat Australia by
five wickets.
England have a high success rate in both Tests and ODIs
at the Oval. For India it has sentimental value as we won our first Test on
English soil at this London venue in 1971. Don Bradman made his last Test appearance
here in 1948.
India have played England four times here with India
being able to win just once. That was in 1986 when Chetan Sharma bowled an excellent
spell of 11 overs and took 3 wickets for 25 runs. India will be playing Sri
Lanka for the first time at this ground in the tri-series.
